Dementia Support
Looking after a friend or relative who has dementia is often very challenging. It's as important to look after your own health, as it is that of the person with dementia.
Caring for and supporting someone with dementia can be stressful and at times upsetting. It can also be very rewarding and there may be good times. It is important that you look after your own health and wellbeing and turn to others for support when you need it. There is advice available to help you understand dementia and do all you can to support the person you care about.
We can help you access information, advice and support including:

Rossendale Hospice - Dementia day stays
On a Friday, weekly, Rossendale Hospice hosts a 'Dementia Day', whereby those with early stages of Dementia can attend the hospice for the duration of the day, for free, under the care of staff nurses and professionals. During these day sessions, they host meaningful socialising opportunities, focused activities, and time and space to feel at ease with friends also with Dementia. This gives the carer the time to do things for themselves such as errands, meeting friends, personal appointments, shopping, or even just alone time at home to rest. This is a 12 week programme (or 12 non-consecutive weeks), which you can be referred to by health professionals or ourselves at Carers Link, or indeed self-refer via the hospice website. There are certain criteria the patient must meet, including that they must be registered with a Rossendale GP.
You, the carer, can also benefit from these day stays, as the hospice offer
free complementary therapies for yourself during the day such as
massages, CBT and psychotherapy.
